I recently spent a crisp winter day photographing Constantina and her dog, Jeff, doing what they love most—walking by the water. We opted for an earthy, documentary-style portrait session that captured their natural connection and casual everyday moments. I’m so excited to share this cozy outdoor photoset with you!
The Highlights & Visuals
The Energy: Capturing authentic connection means embracing the elements—even when it's sub-zero out by the water! Between freezing winter breezes, Jeff was living his best life, getting reward snacks, head scratches, and toy playtime every time he aced a pose. I love creating a comfortable, high-energy environment where pets and their humans can just play and be themselves while I capture the magic.
The Setup: I kept the setup super simple for this shoot: just my Canon body paired with two different lenses to capture both wide environmental scenes and intimate, close-up details. Traveling light made it easy to keep up with Jeff's high-energy treat breaks and toy runs, proving you don't need complicated gear to tell a rich, cozy story.
Favorite Moment: My absolute favorite shot from the day has to be Jeff looking up at Constantina with pure, unscripted love (as seen in the highlight photo). In the middle of the freezing cold, that single look said everything about their bond—and it’s exactly why I love documentary-style portraiture!
